General Information: The country stretches over 30 degrees of latitude from the thick sub-tropical forests of the north through the immense flat grass plains of the pampas to the cool desert plateaux of Patagonia in the south. The economy is made up of the rich soils of the pampas, beef and grain. Over 60% of the export revenue is accounted for by grain crops. However, shortage of raw materials and foreign aid debts have meant lower production, unemployment and a trong decline in home demand.The expansion of the oil and gas industry and the steady growth of coal, hydro-electricity and nuclear power, is providing a base for industrial expansion but the internal inflation and foreign financial sanctions have not yet allowed this expansion.
