Latin Personals Romantic comedies make for the perfect night in.

When it comes to dating Latina women, and dating in general, there is a certain tradition that many couples tend to adhere to, and that tradition is watching movies together. Some couples watch horror movies because then, one party can act really scared and the other can cuddle up to them in a way that is supposed to be comforting. Some couples watch documentaries because they enjoy learning new things.

There are also couples who watch true crime documentaries because they can then speculate on the criminal and the reason and the suspects and all of that, basically becoming amateur detectives together.

There are couples who watch animated movies together, sometimes because they have kids, and those are the films that children want to watch, and sometimes because they are legitimate fans of the movies themselves.

The genre is almost unimportant, because a movie date is a pretty important thing in and of itself.

But there is one genre of film that many a couple will likely gravitate towards, a type of film that is light and breezy, almost like iced coffee on a really warm day. Not entirely substantial or healthy, but refreshing when the heat gets to be too much. That genre is romantic comedy.

Now, there are movies that have comedy, and there are movies that have romance, and lots of people are unsurprisingly into cheesy romance movies. Then again, the presence of romantic and comedic elements in the same film does not automatically make that film a romantic comedy.

In a romantic comedy, the romance is augmented by the comedy, and the comedy is augmented by the romance. The two elements blend together to create an elixir of a love story that generally goes down easy.

Now, romantic comedy, also known as rom-com, is a cinematic staple. Almost every film industry in the world has a litany of romantic comedies, which means that there is an abundance of movies to watch. The lack of scarcity can make it hard to pick one, especially out of all the romantic comedies on Netflix, but there are a few classics that are considered classics for a reason.

  1. When Harry Met Sally...
  2. Possibly the single most definitive rom-com of all time, When Harry Met Sally... stars Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, who, as the title would suggest, play characters by the name of Harry and Sally.

The film is basically about Harry and Sally, who go from strangers to friends, to really good friends to lovers, and it also features a diner scene that is pretty iconic. On a side note, director Rob Reiner met his wife while working on the movie and rewrote the ending to be a lot happier as a result of the relationship.

It’s also among the many smart romantic comedies, with very snappy and witty dialogue between the two leads. So it’s not a bad choice for dating Latina women or women in general.

  3. Roman Holiday
  4. A true classic of the genre and featuring a truly iconic shot of a romantic Vespa ride through the city of Rome, Roman Holiday stars Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck as Princess Anne and Joe Bradley.

Fed up with a life of being strictly controlled, Princess Anne makes escapes to live just one day of pure freedom and crosses paths with American reporter Joe Bradley, who sort of needs a big story, like a princess letting loose.

There’s also a bit of a love triangle that is unique in that instead of an alternative suitor, the third leg of the triangle is Princess Anne’s country, which needs her to be royal and not married to a commoner.

  5. You’ve Got Mail
  6. A classic movie starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, You’ve Got Mail is a remake of another classic, The Shop Around the Corner. Hanks stars as Joe Fox, scion of a chain of big, corporate bookstores, while Ryan plays Kathleen Kelly, a bookstore owner whose business is threatened by Fox’s chain. This leads to a bit of an acrimonious relationship between the two leads.

Unbeknownst to the two of them, however, they have struck up quite a friendship over the internet where neither is initially aware of the other’s identity.

  7. Letters to Juliet
  8. In Romeo and Juliet, the two leads have a whole conversation while Romeo is on the ground and Juliet is up on her balcony. Well, the leads are fictional, but the city in which the play is set, the fair Verona where the scene was laid, is very much a real place with very real people living in it.

Now, some of those people style themselves the Secretaries of Juliet, who take it upon themselves to answer love letters.

Letters to Juliet focuses on an American journalist who encounters these secretaries, answers a love letter from 1957, and gets a response when the letter’s original author, Claire travels to Verona in order to possibly follow up on the letter, with her snarky grandson Charlie in tow.

  9. 27 Dresses
  10. Jane is the epitome of always being the bridesmaid, never the bride, and having been a bridesmaid 27 times, that’s not an exaggeration. Well, she doesn’t want to be a bridesmaid anymore, she wants to be the bride, and she wants the groom to be George, her boss.

But then things get complicated when George falls for Tess, Jane’s sister, and then there’s the presence of Kevin, a reporter who learns of a woman who has been a bridesmaid 27 times, coming to decide that it’s the kind of story that can elevate his career. He is also not entirely unattractive and is a pretty decent verbal sparring partner.

  11. 13 Going On 30
  12. Jenna wants to be thirty, flirty, and thriving. Fast forward a few years, and Jenna is exactly that. The main problem is that she is literally fast-forwarding to it, going to bed as a 13-year-old in her hometown, only to wake up as a 30-year-old in an apartment on 5th Avenue with a hockey player boyfriend.

Over the course of the film, Jenna realizes that maybe being thirty, flirty, and thriving is not all it’s cracked up to be, and she finds herself reconnecting with Matty, the best friend that she had no memory of leaving behind.

There are a lot of people who turn their noses up at rom-coms, calling them empty fillers. But they are great for turning off the brain and just enjoying something for an hour or two, and most importantly, they are great for being on a date with Latina women.
